Juniors Golf

We have a comprehensive Junior programme run by our junior golf co ordinator, qualified and certified coach, Brett Wood.

Juniors train and play every Sunday morning starting at 8.00 am at either of our Forster or Tuncurry courses.

Our resident golf professional Nick Lumley holds regular clinics which are available to any junior for a modest fee.

Over the course of the year we travel to other clubs in our area for competitions and also host the other clubs at home.

New juniors between the ages of 11 - 17 are always welcome. No experience is necessary and we can help with equipment if needed. Our aim is to introduce young people to the game of golf and assist them to learn the disciplines and gain the important social skills which make this game great.

2011 Results

Michael Wood has been named Forster Tuncurry Junior Golfer of the Year and was presented with the Ross Street Perpetual Trophy  on Sunday 18 December at the Tuncurry golf course. A trophy and perpetual shield is awarded annually to our best junior golfer, with four different  winners in four years. The sheild has been awarded annually since 2002 and much coverted by by all the juniors. Thanks to the family of Ross Street for their ongoing support for the junior program.

Michael's year in golf included winning the highest number of junior monthly medal rounds and finishing second in the junior matchplay final, after winning the match play finals for the previous three years. He also scored 49 stableford points in the men's comp at Hawks Nest Golf Club and was a member of the winning team in the men's open Tuncurry 2BBB stableford match play final. Michael has also taken 9 shots off his AGU handicap this year.

Morgan Gammage was the top junior female golfer again this year. Morgan won the most junior monthly medals and was the junior girl match play champion defeating Avalon Neate in a close final.

Michael and Morgan will have their club junior membership fees paid for next year by the Vets. This is the third year in a row that the Vets have made funds available for this purpose and it is certainly appreciated.

Robert Neate was the junior male matchplay champion defeating Michael Wood 1 up.

Juniors 2011

Travers Anderson has won the junior cadet golfer of the year again this year. Travers has the most consistant game of all our cadets but the likes of Michael Flemming, Taylor Reeves, Emma Jarvie and Justin Holkin are closing the gap.

I would like to thank B & J McNamara for being so supportive with their sponsorship for the fourth year which makes our trips away and prizes possible. Thailand Golf tours have also supported us with shirts and hats.

The number of juniors has dropped off somewhat. We always welcome new players. Anyone who is interested in playing junior golf on Sundaybmornings can meet us at Forster golf course when we start back on Feb 5th 2012 at 8am.
