Juniors Golf

We have a comprehensive Junior programme run by our junior golf co ordinator, qualified and certified coach, Brett Wood.

Juniors train and play every Sunday morning starting at 8.00 am at either of our Forster or Tuncurry courses.

Our resident golf professional Nick Lumley holds regular clinics which are available to any junior for a modest fee.

Over the course of the year we travel to other clubs in our area for competitions and also host the other clubs at home.

New juniors between the ages of 11 - 17 are always welcome. No experience is necessary and we can help with equipment if needed. Our aim is to introduce young people to the game of golf and assist them to learn the disciplines and gain the important social skills which make this game great.

JUNIORS UPDATE

Numbers are a little down at the moment with cool mornings, catch up soccer games, volleyball, rep cricket clinics, while some are studying for important exames, all contributing to small fields.

Over the next few months we should see numbers grow and there will be plenty to play for as we will be off to Gloucester, Harrington and Taree for junior open events and then finish the year with our own open on November 28th followed by our presentation day a couple of weeks after that.

In the next few weeks, depending on numbers, we will get into our junior match play event to determine our match play champion for 2010.  Our 2008/2009 champion Mike Wood has been away from golf for various reasons this year and will find it difficult to defend his title.  Jake Mauger, our 2009 junior golfer of the year, Alec hanson, Steve Cavanagh and Beau Burnett will all be strong contenders.  Morgan Gammage, Avalon Neate, Robert Neate, Matt Dunk, Travers Anderson and Brendan De Sousa will also be able to make things interesting if they can play to their ability and get the most our of their higher handicaps.  Our most improved golfer from 2009, Michael Flemming, is continuing to get better all the time.  He is scoring lower than last year and turns up every week without fail.

Thanks to all the parents who walk with the groups.  This makes things a lot easier and safer for everybody.

Regards Brett

Junior Golf Schedule

Jake Mauger has been named Forster Tuncurry junior golfer of the year for 2009at our annual presentation day.  Jake had a fantastic year of golf and his dedication to practise has really paid off.
Jake shot the lowest round of the year of all his peers at Forster with a 3 over 35, he was runner up in the match play and won the Taree junior open cadet division a few weeks back.  He performed well at all other tournaments he played in this year.  Well done Jake.

Jake Mauger

Alec Hanson was the A Grade golfer of the year and has also joined the senior ranks as a playing member. He also represented the LNC juniors and won both his matches in the central coast tournament.

Beau Burnett is the A Grade runner up and competed well all year finishing 2nd in the Harrington junior open.  Beau has a great temperament which will go a long way to improving his game.
Michael Wood is the B Grade winner for 2009 after winning our junior match play final against Junior Golfer of the year Jake Mauger and winning B Grade at the Ware Building Forster Tuncurry junior open played at our own Tuncurry course earlier this year.

Robert Neate was runner up for B Grade this year and is ever improving. He shot his best ever round this year and was in the pace getters on most of the away tournaments we played in. Robert had a great game this year in the heat at the Taree open and finished in the place getters there also. Robert is another player who will improve with age and is another in the group that is happy to practise hard to get results.

All 2009 Juniors

Nathan Rosskelly had the best finish to the year to become the C Grade golfer of the year.
Nathan won the net division at the Camden Haven open and followed that up a week later by winning the net again at the Taree open. He was unbearable on both drives home from those tournaments as he loves to let you know when he plays well.

Both these events had big fields and Nathan was at the top of his game to win them both.  The Taree round was a gem with the temperatures hovering around 40c which really took a toll on all the kids. It was so hot that some kids could only play 6 holes and it was Matt Dunk from our juniors that won that division as well. He will be a star of the future and is keen to put the work in.

Morgan Gammage is the C grade runner up and our leading female golfer again this year. She also had some great rounds in tournaments this year, always being close to the leaders. We are working hard to change her swing slightly and she is one of the biggest hitters off the Tee, out driving a lot of her male counterparts with ease. Her sister Jamie and Avalon Neate, our other regular female golfers are also improving all the time and will do well in the future.

Michael Flemming and Jordan Hallet are the winners of the most improved trophies this year and have both come a long way since starting with us and playing their first full year. These two both have good temperaments and should really go well next year if they stick at it.

2009 Junior Winners

I would like to thank all the parents who have walked with their younger kids and provided great encouragement and safety along the way. It is not easy looking after 20 or more kids and without the parents it would be impossible.

Thanks to Dave and Kerry for all their help again in 2009.

See you all February 7th 2010,   Brett
