The Forster Tuncurry Golf Club is located in the Great Lakes area on New South Wales' Mid North Coast, an easy three hours drive north from Sydney. The Forster Tuncurry area is positioned between the beautiful Wallis Lake and the Pacific Ocean and is blessed with an abundance of natures beautiful attractions. Surfing, Beaches, National Parks, Fishing, Dolphin & Whale Watching along with our two great golf courses are great reasons to make Forster Tuncurry your next destination.

The Forster Tuncurry Golf Club incorporates the Forster Golf Club and Tuncurry Golf Club (formerly The Great Lakes Country Club). Casual golf began in the Forster Tuncurry area during the 1920's when some locals played on a 9 hole course located on Mr. Harry Mathias' farm near Piper's Bay on the Lakes Way. Organized golf commenced in the mid 1930's when Mr E Lambert leased property from Mrs Lilian Piper & Mrs Grace Bennett and constructed a 9 hole course not far from Breckenridge Channel. This course was bounded by Breckenridge, South & Water Streets. Golf continued on this area for approximately 14 years.

In 1950 after difficulty of obtaining priority on the course for club members over social players, the 1st General Meeting was called for the current Forster Tuncurry Golf Club. The meeting was chaired by Mr Jack Breckenridge with 27 Members and 6 Associates. It was decided the time was right to initiate a search for property to construct a course owned by the golfers themselves and thus have control of their own destiny and affairs. Mr Bert Tickner, Mr Don Jeffreys, Mr Max Borthwick and "Jumbo" (Jim) McRae were the group of golfers that led the search for suitable land.

Land was obtained by purchasing land from Mr Perce Underwood for 6000 pounds and later a parcel of land from Mr Jack Jahnsen for 1000 pounds. Fortunately, a well known local identity, Mr J.J McKay agreed to lend the club 6000 pounds at 3% interest whilst the rest was raised with debentures. 9 holes was constructed to a design by prominent Sydney golfing identity Mr A.W East. 2 more holes were later added making it 11 holes all together. Play commenced on the course in 1952. Another 5 acres was purchased from Mr Jack Jahnsen for 500 pounds and a lease entered into with the Land's Dept. for another 22 acres and the western 7 holes were constructed. Mr. Bill Kennedy (Mayor of Taree) opened these 7 new holes in 1970.

In 1973 with the influx of social players and fast growth of Forster Tuncurry it became obvious that it was only a matter of time until another course was needed. Investigations into acquiring land for another course commenced and investigations continued over a long period. In 1978 a meeting was called to obtain support for the formation of a club at Tuncurry which would be called The Great Lakes Country Club. In November 1979 Registration as a company was granted and planning continued. In 1981 after a lot of planning and hard work the Land's Dept. approved an area of 148 acres for the course. Nagle, Cooper and Associates were engaged as course designers and the work on the course commenced.

In 1983 to keep the momentum on the construction of the new course the consideration of a merger with the existing Forster Tuncurry Club was adopted. On the 7th of April 1983 at an extraordinary meeting the Forster Tuncurry Golf Club and The Great Lakes Country Club were merged. The first 11 holes were opened by Mr Lionel Clark, President of the NSWGA on 13th May 1984. The final 7 holes were opened in August 1985.

The Great Lakes Country Club was designed by Kel Nagle and Mike Cooper and carved out of the seaside bush land in Northern Tuncurry by the members. The great use of the natural land with the rolling couch fairways this challenging Championship course is well worth a game. The Tuncurry course is one re known for it's ability to handle rain, the sand base can absorb large amounts of rain and the course is well utilized during the wet.

The Forster course is one of the friendliest seaside courses on the north coast, The Forster course attracts a large number of social golfers year round. At 4868 metres, Par 66 for the men and Par 68 for the ladies it's generous fairways and forgiving rough are major factors in attracting golfers out for an enjoyable experience. Don't be fooled by the courses short par 4's, smaller green's, the seabreeze, bunkers and water hazards are not to be disregarded and have brought many a good round unstuck. The course is nestled just off Forster's One Mile Beach with holes 1 to 6 of the front nine on the beach side of the club house sure to remind you where you are, ocean breeze, glimpses of the sand.

With a current membership just over 2800 members, competitions are run 7 days a week and visitors are welcomed to join a competition or play socially when available.
